Personality:

Positive:
• Kind—he desperately hopes to be kind. He’s as human as anyone else, with all of a human’s foibles and moods, but he makes being kind to others a priority when he can. He will also go out of his way to be kind; part of his general psychological makeup is that he leaves places better when he goes, and to that end he will offer his help in Situations he believes he can influence or impact. This also means that if he feels he’s making things worse, he will be the first and most enthusiastic to remove himself from the Situation.
• Adventurous—he just likes Situations. He likes getting into them, likes poking at them, likes exploring them, likes causing a little bit of benign chaos. He’s voraciously curious, even after all he’s seen, and has a strong belief in the uniqueness of individuals to the point where he will get into Situations with them out of pure interest in them and what they’re going to do. He likes being a little bit off-balance, likes the little thrill of having to scramble to keep his feet, and absolutely loves experiencing this with others who will have completely different reactions than he might.
• Shameless—he has zero sense of shame. He doesn’t really see a reason for it? For him, shame is the curdling emotion that throws him off when he doesn’t stand by his own actions. If he acts in accordance with what he feels he needs to do at any one point in time, then shame is second-guessing himself. Often, he’s never going to see these people again, so there’s no point. Then, too, he’s very much full-speed-ahead, as a person, and the kind of looking back that shame requires of him is not something he can allow himself. That, plus he uses himself as a distracting focal-point for social situations in order to diffuse tension and redirect negativity. He can do that much more easily without shame, grounding Situations like a lightning rod.

Negative
• Self-subsumptive Attachment—this isn’t perhaps the best name for it, but it is essentially the verso of his kindness trait. He is prone to throwing himself into relationships (often in which he ‘loves’ the other party in some capacity) and then just…subsuming his wants, needs, desires, and goals into the other person’s whole deal. It is exactly as healthy as it sounds. He has a pretty solid sense of self, but he also has a warped sense of his own purpose. According to him, his purpose is to serve a purpose to others. He’s reached this conclusion over time, as a result of his own avoidant behavior, so it's pretty well ingrained into him that his whole reason for being (and being present) is to be of use. To be, hah, kind in one of the most self-destructive ways possible.
• Ruthless loyalty—his whole morality—after bouncing between universes where the only true constant is that people are people everywhere—is exquisitely people-centric. Towards the ends of protecting them and/or furthering their goals (but mostly protecting them), the ends will justify all means. He’s pretty good at putting himself into other people’s shoes, so this ruthlessness requires a central focus. But if he’s settled into the decision that he’d do anything for this person? There are very few lines he will not cross, at that point.
• Avoidant—one of his core traits is his absolutely epic levels of avoidance. He started running at seventeen and never stopped, despite every opportunity he’s had since. This applies to the physical and emotional and, honestly, any other kind of confronting or confounding emotion, moment, event, or person. If he starts feeling trapped? Or has to self-analyze? Or commit to a genuine expression of care? He’s outta there! Hittin’ the bricks! He will eel away at the speed of light. The only real circumvention he has for this is when the other two negative traits activate first. He will take himself apart for someone else and regret nothing. Though, he will flee immediately once everything is resolved, literally yanking himself out of the universe to avoid the fallout.

Powers/Abilities:

• Guitar Picker—Abby’s got his guitar and he’s fairly good with it, though he mostly plays everything by ear. He’s never been formally trained, only picked up songs and/or been taught them by people he’s met on the road.
• Jack-of-all-Trades—(and master of none…) Abby’s got a great breadth of knowledge in how things work, on a practical level. He can fiddle with most things, and even if he doesn’t know how they might be fixed, he can usually give a pretty accurate assessment of how something is broken. He has no in-depth expertise in anything in particular, but can cobble together a hypothesis out of spare principles, if he needs to.
• Universe-tuning Implants—the only actual ‘power’ that Abby possesses is an implant that allows two things: 1) to hear the universe-songs of whichever reality he currently inhabits and 2) to slip between universes at will. As part of the agreement upon his recruitment, he would ask for the second feature to be outright disabled, just in case. With the implant currently on the fritz, he doesn’t want any accidents, especially since he low-key expects them to be able to fix it whenever he asks them to turn it back on.

Regret: Short answer: Abby wishes to ensure V’s continued existence. Long answer: Abby had to leave the universe in which he and V had a very intense, trauma-fueled romance. He is a little hopelessly in love with her (Well. ‘Love.’), but the fact of the matter is that he escaped the universe, and in escaping he…just…doesn’t know what happened to her. And he can’t know, because if he goes back and finds her, it’ll put them both right back into the situation he escaped. This isn’t the kind of story where a rescue mission does anything but get everyone killed; he needs to make sure she’s okay without going back and fucking everything up.

Suitability: Abby’d be an excellent recruit, because he is, above all, adaptive. Out of necessity, he has picked up a little bit of everything, across the various different universes that he’s visited or lived in for a while, so very little surprises him, and he’s willing to play along far beyond the bounds of safety and sanity in pursuit of his goals. He considers himself ‘support,’ in a somewhat existential kind of way, and prefers to take his ego out of things in order to get shit done. Beyond that, he’s also very genuinely friendly and just…likes people, and part of his ability to adapt is wrapped around social interaction and the de-escalation of situations between strangers. Ultimately, though—and this is something he’d never admit to—his regret has introduced a little wobble in the bedrock of his psyche, and he needs to patch it up.

Inventory: A backpack with traveler’s essentials (a couple of changes of clothes, extra socks, simple toiletries and laundry soap, towel, water bottle, utensils, and a scarf), a scraggly jacket, and a worn but cared-for guitar. Only the guitar is he attached to. If he’s missing any minor essentials out of his traveling gear, it’s all mundane and replaceable.
